This week we had a catch up with Stuart and Susanna, who both suggested that I could develop my logo further to create more of a visual language and identity. I think after spending most of the morning developing a range of other ideas, I still may return to my presented idea and aim to explore that further. In the above examples I had started to explore the idea of Bod meaning dwelling or home. Bodmin translating as home of the monks. I also thought about the ideas that people had spoken about and the history was of significance to the area and the Celtic connections. I wanted to create an icon that drew reference to these ideas. This could then be adapted and explored further as a graphic element to add continuity to the rest of the designed outcomes. I believe that there are some ideas within this exploration that I can use, certainly the use of type in some of the above examples. I do like the logic and idea behind some of these concepts but worry that they may appear too clinical or corporate. My concern is that they are not appealing to a wide audience or hold the value of fun or engaging. This is where I need to gain further feedback after combining the initial ideas with some of the above.
After feedback from Susanna and Stuart I started to consider how I could utilise brand assets or a visual language to enhance the clarity and consistency of the message that I was delivering. I had looked through some guidelines for the NETFLIX branding and there are clear guides to how the logo should be used and this does offer some structure to the identity.
I continued to explore ideas for the branding and visual identity for the project, I have continued to work with the colours that have been approved by the BCA group but considered a range of other ideas that I feel could be developed further to create a visual language and identity to be used throughout the designed outcomes of this project.
Focusing on the idea that this project is location specific, and that location is Bodmin. The B become the focus for the logo. I started to create a style of image and iconography with the use of colours. This is an idea that will be pitched to the BCA group at the next meeting. While I feel that the previous logo did work, I wondered if this idea or style would offer more in the way of developing a visual language that could be adopted in a range of platforms and touchpoint to ensure a clarity and consistency of message.
