After a tutorial with Susanna last week It was discussed that there was a disconnect between the screen printing that I had been working on and the digital design elements. I would have liked to experiment further with the arrows but after a few failed attempts to expose a screen at home I had decided to use digital screen printing textures. I combined the half tone dot idea with the arrows that I had developed last week. The aim here is to create a visual language that hints towards a hand made, fun, craft. adding the offset half tone dots provides a fun and approachable aesthetic that I believe works as an approachable style. It balances the hand made approach with the digital and the offset miss matched arrows really works on the mustard yellow background.
I decided to look at a different colour palette, this was after seeing the revised branding by someone for the TGI Fridays. The song use of the red stripe made me consider how colour could be used as a key visual. The new governments graphics and branding for the brexit strategy also uses a strong arrow simple and the colour red.
While my initial colour palette had received positive feedback, taking inspiration from a range of new projects I have seen in recent days I decided to mix it up a little and this use of a strong vibrant red mixed with a dark blue works really well to add emphasis and a key rememberable colour mark that can be used throughout the branding. In print, the half tone dots could be spot varnished without the colour arrows. Again this would add a nice contrast and crafted feel to printed materials.
